Android – Iphone – Applications

We all know that Microsoft has something big planned with Windows Phone 7, as well as the Kinect.

However, it is hard to believe how much is going to promote the Kinect and WP7. I believe that $500 million is going to the Kinect, and another $500 million to WP7. They old have that Old Spice Guy for WP7, and lots of tie-ins with Burger King, Pepsi, YouTube, Nickelodeon, Disney, and other various popular TV shows like Glee and Dancing with the Stars.

That is one billion in promotion for Microsoft. Man, what kind of return is the big M expecting from these products.

While I was wandering around CTIA Fall 2010, trying to find some stories, I found an interesting one with Transfer-to.

TransferTo operates a global airtime remittance network that interconnects the prepaid systems of partner mobile operators. As a complement to traditional modes of remittances, TransferTo allows subscribers to ‘transfer’ small amounts of value in the form of airtime (top-ups) across borders.

What that translates to is that you can transfer unused cellphone minutes to other people in other countries. Considering that five dollars can buy up to a month’s worth of cellular phone service in another country, this is really a giving endeavor!

Hopefully, there are a lot more charitable forces like TransferTo going on.

Microsoft’s Kinect motion sensing controller for Xbox 360 is looking to revolutionize the way we play games by utilizing a 3D camera capable of tracking a user’s entire body along with voice and facial recognition. Now, it’s not exactly mobile but it does get you up and off the couch so that’s a bit of mobility there for you, eh?

Anyways, we’ve known for quite some time that Kinect would be hitting North American shelves sometime in early November but our friends across the pond in Europe haven’t had the luxury. Instead, they’ve been left generally in the dark when it comes to a release date for the Kinect motion controller.

Today, however, it was announced that Europe will in fact be getting Kinect on August 10th, 2010. The Middle East and Africa will be getting the controller on the same day, as well. As for a price, well, we have confirmed that its £130 in the UK so perhaps that price will translate into the other mentioned regions as well.
