Android is causing quite a bit of buzz today thanks to the fact that Google has unveiled both version 2.3 (otherwise known as Gingerbread) and their long rumored Nexus S device. However, while consumers have quite a bit to get excited about, developers do as well. The reason for this being that Google has just released the Android 2.3 SDK.

Android ‘Gingerbread’ 2.3 brings with it quite a bit of improvements for the open source mobile platform. First of all, game developers will be subject to a bunch of improvements (which you can hear about in the above video) which will help nicely with that rumored Playstation Phone. Additionally, Google has added support for video calling and VoIP. Other than that we’ve got an improved download and task manager, an updated keyboard with multitouch support, gyroscope support and more. They’ve also released a Gingerbread introductory video which we’ve included above for your viewing pleasure.

No word on when the Android 2.3 update is going to go out to the open market but considering the SDK is in the wild, it shouldn’t be too long now.

nookcolor Nook Color Gets SDK, Developers Rejoice

Many times, when a device hits the streets, it isn’t until third party developers get a chance to do their biddings that the device actually gets critically acclaimed. One such device this may apply to is the Nook Color eReader from Barnes & Noble.

While this device is billed as an eReader, it features Google’s Android mobile OS, a 7-inch touchscreen, 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a microSD making it much more similar to a tablet than a traditional eReader. However, due to the fact that Barnes & Noble limits the software found within the Nook Color, things aren’t quite up to par with, say, the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

If you’ll remember, we told you not too long ago that the device had been routed giving those who know how the ability to install pretty much whatever they want on the device. However, if you’re waiting for a more legit way of doing things you’ll be happy to know that Barnes & Noble has today released the Nook Color’s SDK meaning developers can now begin creating software for the device.

windowsphone7 Microsoft Announces Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools Now Ready

Next month will be a monumental one for Microsoft as it is the month that they are expected to ship their brand new mobile operating system dubbed Windows Phone 7. This new mobile operating system will do away what consumers hated with Windows Mobile and bring us a user experience centered entirely around touch input.

Well, the mobile OS itself may be a great one but what’s really going to make or break the system is its third party applications. Luckily, Microsoft has announced today that their developer tools are now available for download meaning developers can get to work on creating hard hitting mobile apps.

Of course, until Windows Phone 7 is out w’re not going to be able to tell if these apps are any good.
