airview01192011 1295447182 App review: AirView

We just came across a neat little iOS app called AirView which, as you can probably tell from the name, transforms your iOS devices into AirPlay video receivers. And since iOS can also output video via AirPlay, this means you can use AirView to either grab AirPlay streams from your computer’s iTunes, or you can stream videos from one iOS device to another (provided that they are both running iOS 4.2 and above, of course). Theoretically, little work is required to get the ball rolling — just launch the app, then play your desired video clip from the source, and finally pick your client device using the AirPlay button.

We say theoretically, because it took us awhile to figure out that none of our purchased videos worked, even though AirPlay supports DRM content — the assumption is that AirView lacks the component for receiving authorization key. Alas, we stuck with our, ahem, homemade videos which actually worked very well over both iTunes-to-iOS and iOS-to-iOS connections, although sometimes we had to relaunch AirView and the iPod app to start a new stream. Perhaps some folks will have better luck than us, so feel free to give this app a go — it is free, after all. Video demo after the break.

stompbox griffinishredlive 20111 280x163 The Griffin StompBox Pedal BoardWe have reported on what Griffin has been up to for quite a while, such as the Lightboard and their recent Fall Collection for the iPad.

This is the StompBox, a pedal board designed with those who apparently use their iPhone and iPad as some sort of instrument.

Granted, I’m not that type of guy, but those who want to connect the StompBox to the iPad or iPhone with a meter-long dock connector cable should probably check into this.

I’m not certain how much this would cost, but my Source says that the guitar connectors are sold separately.

jvc satnavgpskw 280x185 JVC KW NT30HD/50HDT NAV systems have iPhone controlled HD radioAt CES 2011, JVC had some of their in-dash GPS navigation systems on deck with the KW-NT50HDT and the KW-NT30HD.

These particular mounts have 6.1 inch displays and have HD radio as well as iPhone connectivity with the USB. Here are some more of what my Source says:

Using ClearChannel’s iheartradio app, you can view song and artist information and scan channels from either the navigation device or the iPhone. The NT50HDT also comes with a free lifetime subscription to the Total Traffic HD+ Network, which provides data like traffic reports, news, and weather information. Both devices come equipped with WAAS navigation, map coverage of all 50 US states, as well as Canada and Puerto Rico, and voice guidance in English, French, and Spanish.

Both of these units are expected to arrive sometime in March, with the NT50HDT at $1,200 and the NT30HD at $1,000.

white iphone voda germany 05 sm White iPhone 4 shows up in Vodafone Germanys inventory system

Could it be that Apple and Foxconn engineers have finally found a way to harness and contain the raw, blinding power of the color white? Last we’d heard, the rarest member of the iPhone 4 clan was tracking for a spring ’11 launch — and that’d line up pretty nicely with shots we’ve received from a trusted source today showing new entries in Vodafone Germany’s inventory system for wei

iphone 4 facetime miTime Updated: Activate FaceTime on Unofficial Carriers

One of the problems with using the iPhone 4 on an unofficial carrier is you lose the ability to FaceTime. Enter MiTime. MiTime is an application available for jailbroken iPhones that activates FaceTime on unlocked iPhone 4s that are running on unofficial/unsupported carriers, such as T-Mobile USA.

The app was first introduced back in August of 2010 and now it has been updated with support for iOS 4.1 and 4.2.1. It works by sending two international SMS messages to activate FaceTime. It is currently the only way to activate FaceTime on unofficial carriers, and in my opinion, it’s definitely worth it.

Follow the guide below to activate FaceTime on your unlocked iPhone 4…

If you’re operating on an unofficial carrier (such as T-Mobile USA), you will need to fully activate your iPhone 4. To do this you must install SAM from Cydia. If your iPhone is already activated with SAM, skip to step 5.

Step 1: Install SAM (Subscriber Artificial Module) on your jailbroken iPhone. To do this, launch Cydia, go to Manage > Sources > Edit > Add, and type in: http://repo.bingner.com

Tap on Add Source.

Step 2: After you have added the source, Go to “Search”, and type in “SAM”. Download and install.

Step 3: Once installed, go to Settings > SAM > De-Activate. You will get a message that your iPhone is De-Activated. Now, Tap on Revert Lock Down.

Step 4: Connect your iPhone via USB and launch iTunes. Once you get a Message that your iPhone is Activated, then you are fully activated with iTunes.

Step 5: From the homescreen, Launch Cydia, go to Manage > Sources > Edit > Add, and type in: http://cydia.pushfix.info

Tap on Add Source

Step 6: After you have added the source, go to “Search”, and type in “MiTime”. Download and install.

Step 7: Launch MiTime, Tap on Agree – You will notice that MiTime will start collecting data and will show you a message that it’s compatible, and FaceTime activation is possible.

NOTE: You must be able to receive and send international text messages. Additional fees may apply.

Step 8: Note down the purchase code, head over to http://mitime.info/purchase, enter the Purchase code, then click on Verify & Purchase and complete the transaction.

Step 9: Once MiTime is purchased, relaunch MiTime. It should say ‘Activated’ & ‘MiTime Purchased’ (pictured below).

You can now FaceTime with your family and Friends using your unlocked iPhone 4!

Here are some notes from the developer of MiTime:

Once purchased, you can change SIMs or phones 3 times and still be recognized as a purchaser, but you can’t change both SIM & phone at same time. If you change both at the same time, please contact me on twitter or respond to the Paypal email receipt with information about your situation (or please consider re-purchasing).

Have you used MiTime before? How did it work for you?
