lg vu plus 280x275 LG Vu Plus Cell Phone Review–Good Phone, Poor DesignLG has given us a variety of cell phones, and today we’re tackling another one in its lineup of offerings, the LG Vu Plus. It may have a few problems, but it’ll also offer plenty of useful traits that speak well on its behalf.

The LG Vu Plus is a 3G quadband slider-style phone that offers Bluetooth connectivity, intelligent typing systems, touch screen (and a full QWERTY keyboard besides for maximum options), AT&T Mobile TV, GPS, a three megapixel camera, a thousand entry phone book, microSD card slot, USB port, speakerphone, mobile web, mobile email, text and multimedia messages, downloadable games, and a battery that offers three hours of talk time on a single charge.

There are definitely plenty of options here–between all the downloadables and the assorted ATAT capability, there’s most anything you could ask for.  But it’s not as though this comes without problems, mostly in design.  The keys on that QWERTY keyboard I mentioned are pretty small and close together, making it hard to work with.  And the battery life is pretty short, which certainly doesn’t help matters.

But still, for a fairly solid cell phone that merely has a few problems, the LG VU Plus should go a long way toward satisfying your needs.

The Good

Plenty of options

Good sound and video quality

The Bad

Short battery life

Difficult controls

Score 7 / 10

sonyericssonpspmockup Sony Ericsson To Debut Gaming Platform And Handset With Android 3.0?

Considering Sony has long had the PSP portable gaming handheld on the market in addition to their Sony Ericsson line up of mobile phones, it would only make sense for the company to merge the two. Well, if recent rumors are to be believed, that may actually be happening, and some what soon.

According to said rumors, Sony Ericsson is gearing up to launch a brand new gaming platform that will work in conjunction with Google’s forthcoming Android 3.0 mobile operating system. Apparently, a new Android powered device will be released that features a form factor similar to the mock up pictured above. This device will feature a phone specific user interface (perhaps PSP-esque?) and a special section of the Android Marketplace dedicated only to games.

Apparantly, this special Marketplace section will only be accessible by Sony Ericsson’s device, in the beginning anyways. Games for the platform may include hard hitting titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, LittleBigPlanet and God of War.

Would you guys buy a smart phone dedicated to gaming? Let us know in the comments.

archos32internettablet Archos 32 Internet Tablet Hits FCC

Earlier this month we showed you the Archos 32 Android 2.1 powered multimedia player. At the time, it ahd just gone up for pre-order, only to be pulled soon afterwards. This led many to ponder when, if ever, we would actually be seeing the device hit store shelves.

Luckily, a device enttiled the Archos 32 Interenet Tablet has just hit the FCC which is believed to be the same exact device (read: it is). According to the FCC we will be seeing the device feature a 3.2-inch capacative touchscreen, built-in GPS, a built-in kickstand, Bluetooth, WiFi and a 3.5mm headset jack. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that there is an included camera so it doesn’t seem like you’ll be video chatting on this one.

However, on the bright side of things, it is reported that this device will cost $149.99 so if you’re looking to get down on Android but don’t want to sell your soul to a wireless carrier for 2 years, this may be your best bet.

Update Will You Upgrade Your iPhone to 4.0.2?As Sebastien reported just a bit ago, Apple released software update 4.0.2. This “update” is said to have addressed to the PDF exploit that the Dev Team discovered, thus allowing JailbreakMe to function with ease. For those of you who aren’t jailbroken (which includes me), do you really plan to update this time?

It would have been nice of Apple to include the various features such as Game Center in this round, but perhaps the Beta isn’t quite perfected to release to the masses. It’s clear that this update was specifically aimed to prevent JailbreakMe from enticing those who buy their phone from today on. I bet the Dev’s get all fuzzy inside when Apple directly implements fixes aimed at their work. I give credit to them (devs), as they do work hard on these jailbreaks.

I think I will be sitting this update out. It may even have a counterproductive effect on me. Now that the hole is patched, I just may jailbreak for the heck of it. How about you? Will you update this go around, or wait for a real update? Let us know in the comments below.

Camera + Camera+ For iPhone Sneaks in Volume Button Shutter Hack (For Now)First let me say that Camera+ is in my top 5 of amazing iPhone apps. On the iPhone 4, this application allows you to maximize your photography abilities to a whole new level, when it comes to taking pictures on a phone. The developers at Taptaptap have snuck in a feature via Safari, that allows you to shutter photos using the volume buttons. Quite handy when you’re using a paid app designed to take stable snapshots.

Apple rejected their public attempt, saying “Your application cannot be added to the App Store because it uses iPhone volume buttons in a non-standard way, potentially resulting in user confusion. Changing the behavior of iPhone external hardware buttons is a violation of the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement. Applications must adhere to the iPhone Human Interface Guidelines as outlined in the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement section 3.3.7” Apparently Apple doesn’t think we are smart enough to operate the camera via physical buttons.

Fear not though. Just type “camplus://enablevolumesnap” (don’t use quotations), into your iPhone’s Safari URL box, and Camera+ version 1.2.1 will enable the feature. Want it removed? Just type “camplus://disablevolumesnap”, and you’re back to its original state.

Like always when it comes to a developer circumventing Apple’s ultimate authority, this won’t last long, I’m sure. So you better grab it now, before it’s banished into the violators oblivion. I can’t help but again think of how many other, less popular apps, have hidden features sneaked into their applications.
