The Samsung Galaxy Tab is expected by some to be one of the iPad’s main competitors. This assumption is not without reason as the device features a 1GHz processor, a beefed up GPU and of course Google’s ever-so-loved Android mobile operating system.
However, until the tablet actually hits the streets we won’t be able to tell how the Galaxy Tab stacks up. Up until now, we hadn’t known exactly when said tablet would be getting an official unveiling but today Samsung has been nice enough to tell us just that.
What you see above is a teaser video recently released by Samsung showing off the Galaxy Tab. There isn’t much we don’t know announced in the video as the 7-inch touchscreen display, HD video playback and the works are all there. Samsung also took this time to reassure us that we will hear more about the Galaxy Tab come IFA next month on September 2nd.
Anyone else excited to finally see the iPad get some competition?
Samsung has long been known to be coming out with a tablet computer of the slate form factor for some time now. In fact, we’ve known that their tablet is to be dubbed the Samsung Galaxy Tab – taking a cue from their ever so popular Samsung Galaxy S smart phone (or Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile and Samsung Captivate on AT&T). Anyways, ever since we first learn of the device it has been pictured, leaked, rumored and so forth.
If you’ll remember, just yesterday we showed you a video of the device taken of a man testing the Samsung Galaxy Tab in Sydney, Australia. Today, we have a leaked picture of the device showing it clearly running Google’s Android 2.2 mobile operating system. Additionally, the same ifanr website that leaked the picture says the device features a 7-inch 1024 x 600 AMOLED display, a PowerVR SGX 540 GPU, a 3.2 megapixel camera, VGA front-facing camera, 3G, GPS, and 802.11 b/g/n WiFI.
While it was generally assumed that the Galaxy Tab would run Froyo, it’s a bit ironic to see the unreleased tablet running the updated OS while the already released Gaalxy S still has not received the 2.2 update.
I’ve been hearing a lot about the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which is essentially a big version of the Galaxy S phone. Apparently, the Samsung Galaxy Tab NX100 will be officially debuting at the IFA European trade show in September.
The NX100 will have the same 2.2 version (Froyo) of Android that the Droid 2 has. It has a 7-inch screen, and there are also reports that the Tab has an interchangeable camera of some sort.
Okay, now all we need is a price and some availability date set in stone.
As we have reported before, Samsung is planning on something big going down on August 11. Many have speculated that it will be the Galaxy Tab, which is essentially a Galaxy S phone in tablet form.
There is also rumor that it could be the YP-MB2, a portable media player that is a lot like the iPod Touch. It is reminiscent of the YP-RB, and it is also a GPS and Wi-Fi capable Android 2.1 Mobile Internet Device with a four-inch Super AMOLED.
